How combustion takes place in a car? Easy to know!!! (4 stroke)
Combustion is the process of burning.
When air and fuel gets mixed up and combusted, power is produced.
Now,let us see how it works.
First of all, air from atmosphere is passed through air filter and mixed with fuel.
Further,4 stroke cycle proceeds as:
1.When inlet valve is opened, the mixture enters the combustion chamber. The entrance of mixture pushes the combustion chamber downward to the crankshaft(TDC to BDC).
2.The combustion chamber now enters the second phase in which it rises upwards again and ignited with the help of spark plug or fuel injector (spark plug for petrol (BDC to TDC).
3.Now,third stroke proceeds when pressure is exerted from the burning of mixture and combustion chamber moves downward, the combustion chamber is connected to the crankshaft. Now this expanding movement of combustion chamber transfers the power to the crankshaft (TDC to BDC)
4.After all 3 strokes have been done, now comes up fourth stroke which involves the movement of combustion chamber back to its initial position. The exhaust valve is opened now and exhaust gets exited when combustion chamber reaches top position(BDC to TDC).
In such manner, repetitive cycles of 4 stroke Internal Combustion Engine petrol run.
*BDC is bottom dead centre and TDC is top dead centre. It is the position of combustion chamber w.r.t its centre.
