An Insight On Pak Navy/ Pakistan maritime from the beginning!!!

ABSTRACT:

Pakistan  maritime   can  play  an  immense  role  in  strengthening  security  as  well  as  trade  system . Pakistani  maritime  field  is  divided  under  the  category  of  Merchant  navy  and  Pakistan  Navy. Pakistan  Navy  deals  mainly  with  the  potential  to  devise  strategic  defense  plans  to  ensure  intra  security  whereas  Merchant  Navy  set  goals  in  attaining  trade  goods. Due  to  the  introduction  of   external  trade  factors  since  the  last  era, the  scope  of  Maritime  has  increased  by  far . Maritime  field  in  Pakistan  holds  great  interest  and  honor  for  the  individuals  showcasing  their  extent  in  determination  to  serve  their  country. The  Pakistan  Navy  started  off  with  the  AMAN  exercise  being  accompanied  by  39  more  countries  in  the  Arabian  sea  for  stabilizing   the  security  in a whole new dimension .  Regional  corporation  can  play  a  vital  role  in  the  socio-economic  development  and  prosperity  of  any  nation , particularly  Pakistan  since  defense  system  and  trade  in  Pakistan  is  considered  to  be  of  strongest  impact .To  play  an  integral  part in  serving  the  nation , Merchant  Navy  has  also  been  playing  a  key  factor  for  Pakistan  in  terms  of  trade . In  order  to  cope  up  with  challenging  circumstances during  sea  ventures , Pakistan  Marine  Academy  had  been  founded . Moreover, trade  would  bloom  at  its  peak  and  internal  threats  of  Pakistan  would  be  minimized  with  compatible  actions  when economic  factors  involved  in  ammunitions  and  trade  go  hand  in  hand .  Students  should  also  be   encouraged  to  develop  knowledge  related  to maritime  field  to contrive  a  setup of  researching  and  fabricating  in  Pakistan  by  own  means  on  a  wider  span . 

SCOPE  OF  REGIONAL  CORPORATION  IN  MARITIME  FIELD:

Water  is  dominating  as  economical  aspect  due  to  its  vast  availability . There  are numerous  opportunities  in  the  field  of  marine  science  that  do  requires  the  categories  of  marine  biology ,  oceanography ,  or  ocean  engineering .

Following  the  similar  procedure  as  army , professionals  are  screened  through  various  examinations  involving  physical  and  mental  capabilities  in  order  to  highlight  best  as  per  the  selection . The  leading  body  includes  the  following:

Maritime  field  in  Pakistan  holds  great  interest  and  honor  for  the  individual  showcasing  their  extent  in  compassion  to  serve  their  country . In  other  words , common  people  take  the  pledge  to  participate  in  Maritime  field . Patriotism  is  the key  factor  in  any  of  the  defense  institute  or  region  in  Pakistan.

If  we  seek  a  bit  of  the  background  of  Maritime  in  Pakistan , it  has  been  found  to have  established  on  14th  August  1947  on  the  independence  day  of  Pakistan . As the  separation  occurred  between  India  and  Pakistan , Armed  Forces  Reconstruction Committee  (AFRC)  divided  the  Royal  Indian  Navy  between  India  and  Pakistan .

Under  the  1956  constitution , the  service  was  re-assigned  as  Pakistan  Navy. Pakistan  Navy  Jack  and  Pakistani  Flag were  put  to  charge . During  the  1971  war  with  India  the  Marines  remained  inactive  from  their  service  in  1974 . Commander Obaidullah  re-established  the  firm  in  1990  from  where  it  stands  presently .

Quaid  at  the  Naval  Academy  on  March  1948  and  Quaid  on-board  HMPS  GODAWARI  on  1947  quoted  " Today  is  a  historic  day  for  Pakistan , doubly  so  for  those  of  us  in  the  Navy . The  Dominion  of  Pakistan  has  come  into  being  and  with  it  a  new  Navy  –  the  Royal  Pakistan  Navy  –  has  been  born . I  am  proud  to  have  been  appointed  to  command  it  and  serve  with  you  at  this  time . In  the  coming  months ,  it  will  be  my  duty  and  yours  to  build  up  our  Navy  into  a  happy  and  efficient  force . "

Pakistan  maritime  industry  is  subordinated  under  the  branch  of  Pakistan  army . It   is  followed  by  Pakistan  Navy  which  is  equipped  of  highly  trained  personals  and  vice  versa . It  has  more  than  22,000  personnel  and  other  5,000  in  reserve . The example   of  Pakistan  would  be  regarded  among  those  countries  which  are  developing  under  the  particular  field  of  Marine  by  leaps  and  bounds .The  share  of  Pakistan  Navy in Pakistan  acquires  more  than  quarter  of  its  annual  budget.

While  the  current  atmosphere  in  Pakistan  has  been  unhealthy  and  challenging , Pakistan  Navy  avail  the  provision  of  new  ships  and  advanced  technologies . Due  to the  introduction  of  external  trade  factors  since  the  last  era , the  scope  to  improvise  defense  has  increased  by  far .

PNS  Qasim  is  the  naval  base  for  the  Pakistani  Marines . It is  responsible  for  general  administration  and  logistics  requirements  of  the  Marines . Its  roles  include :

1.  Act  as  logistics  base  for  Marines .

2.  Operational  readiness  of  all  segments  of  Marines .

3.  Defense  of  designated  operational  area  in  Creek .

4.  Provision  of  security  coverage  to  VA/VPs  of  Pakistan Navy  and  sensitive  projects  of  national  importance .

5.  Aid  to  civil  power  and  rendering  of  assistance  in  case  of  natural  calamities .

6.  Provision  of  Air  Defense  cover  to  designated  PN  units  and  Karachi  complex  through  deployment  of Mistral  Missiles , and  Air  Defense  Balloons .

7.  Responsible  for  conduct  of  basic  and  mid-career  course  for  Marines .

8.  Maintain  liaison  with  other  PN  and  Army  Institutions  for  coordinating  various  courses  of   instructions .

9.  Supervision / career  management  of  Marines .

10.  Ceremonial  duties .

Since  2004 , the  Pakistan  Navy  is  taking  part  in  the  multinational  coalition  Task  Force  150  and  is  an  integral  part  of  multinationals  Task  Force  151  to  combat  pirates .  In  the  realm  of  defense  diplomacy , it  supports  foreign  policy  objectives  through  regular  exercises  with  foreign  navies  and  participates  in  flag  showing  in  various  international  ports . It  has  come  to  the  beck  and  call  of  Pakistan  and  international  theatres  of  operations affected  by  natural  calamities  like  floods , cyclones  and  other  disasters .

Pakistan  holds  distinction  on  account  of  its  location . Geographically , Pakistan  has  Central  Asia  and  Western  Asia . It  has  a 1,046  kilometer  (650 mi)  coastline  along  the Arabian  Sea  and  the  Gulf  of  Oman  in  the  south  and  is  bordered  by  India  to  the  east ,  Afghanistan  to  the  west  and  north , Iran  to  the  southwest  and  China  in  the  far  northeast. It  is  separated  from  Tajikistan  by  Afghanistan's  narrow  Wakhan  Corridor  in  the  north ,  and  also  shares  a  marine  border  with  Oman .

Recently , at  the  Economic  Cooperation  Organization’s  (ECO)  summit  in  Baku , ex-President Asif  Ali  Zardari  emphasized  on  the  importance  of  regional  cooperation  in  order  to  minimize  many  problems  that  can  be  solved  internally . Further  on , inter-dependability  would  be  enhanced  too .

Mentioning  the  acknowledgments  of   Pakistan  Navy , the  Pakistan  Navy  started  off  with  the  AMAN  exercise  being  accompanied  by  39  more  countries  in  the  Arabian  sea  for  strengthening  the  security . This  exercise  is  practiced  every  alternate  year . It  started  from  2007 , 2009 , 2011  with  the  sole  aim  and  objective  to  demolish  rising threats  of  terrorism . The  Arabian  Sea  is  faced  with  huge  infiltration  due  to  its  transportation  means .

In  addition  to  the  enhancing  regional  corporation , Pakistani  warship  PNS  Azmat  visited  Sri  Lanka  on  May , 2012 . The  PNS  Azmat  is  one  of  the  two  Azmat  class  FACs  ( fast  attack  craft )  which  the  national  navy  of  Pakistan  had  purchased  from  China . Pakistan  maintains  friendly  relation  with  China  and  demonstrate  trade  effectively . During  its  long  journey from China to Karachi, the vessel had visited ports in friendly nations such as Vietnam , Malaysia ,  and  Indonesia  before  reaching  Sri  Lanka . It  has  been  found  that Pakistan Navy  warships  visit  the  Sri  Lankan  ports  overtimes . Pakistan  and  Sri  Lanka  maintain close  relations .

HMS  Cornwall , which  is  authorized  under  the  warship  initiative  of  the  Middle  East  met  PNS  Shahjahan  at  the  Arabian  Sea  on  February , 2012 . The  two  battle  ships  interchanged  their  equips  and  skills  in  order  to  stabilize  better  the  future .

On  July  19 , 2011 ; PNS  Shamsheer  and  PNS  Nasr  visited  Qingdao , China . The  ships  were  received  by  a  large  group  of  Peoples  Liberation  Army  (PLA)  Navy  officers ,  officials  of  the  Pakistan  Embassy  as  well  as  general  public  including  local  school  children  and media  personnel . This  visit  marked  as  the  celebration  of  60th  anniversary  of  Pakistan-China   friendly  relation . As  a  result , naval  exercises  were  also  held .

An  incident  also  happened  in  order  to  demotivate  Pakistan  Navy . The  attempt  was  made  by  the  pirates  in order  to  hijack  vessel  MV  Suez . Governor  Sindh , Mr.  Ishrat  ul  Ibad  and  Mr  Ansar  Burney  in  reference  with  Ansar  Burney  Trust  enabled  the  provision  of  $ 2.1 million  to  avoid  further  repulsion . PNS  Babur  got  in  the  right  track  in  order  to  repel  the  attempt . There  were  22  crew  members  of  the  Merchant  Vessel  Suez , including  eleven  Egyptians , six  Indians , four  Pakistanis  and  a  Sri  Lankan  who  reached  Karachi  dockyard  safely . It  was  also  quoted  by  Governor  Sindh  that  the  pirates  had  made  at  least  two  attempts  to  recapture  MV  Suez  during  its  return  journey , but  the  attempts  were  foiled  by  PNS  Babur  personnel . Later , crew  were  exchanged  from  PNS  Babur  to  PNS  Zulfiqar  respectively .

Pak-Turkish  joint  Naval  exercise  were  carried  out  on  July  4 , 2011 . The  exercise  was  conducted  ‘ Deniz  Aslan  - II  (Sea Lion) ’ in  two  phases  in  which  four  ships  of  Turkish  Maritime  Task  Group  and  three  Pakistan  Navy  Ships  along  with  a  submarine  took  part.

Submarines  also  fall under  the  category  of  Pakistan  Navy. A  modern  conventional submarine  type , Agosta-90B  built   under  transfer  of  technology  from  DCNI   of  France . During  this  program  Engineers  of  Pakistan  Navy  and  Karachi  Shipyard  obtained extensive  training  in  France  for  construction  of  submarine .  Pakistan  Navy should  enhance  the  trade  of  Agosta  class  submarines  which  the  country  is  capable  of  producing  by  own  means  efficiently.

Regional  corporation  can  play  a  vital  role  in  the  socio-economic  development  and  prosperity  of  any  nation , particularly  Pakistan  since  defense  system  and  trade  in  Pakistan  is  considered  to  be  of  strongest  impact .

During  Indo-Pak  war  in  1971 , Pakistan  went  through  severe  hard  times . On  1  January  1974 , President  of Pakistan  Zulfiqar  Ali  Bhutto  nationalized  National  Shipping  Corporation  and  Pakistan  Shipping  Corporation  and  formed  Pakistan  National  Shipping  Corporation (PNSC)  with  high  goals  to  modify  Pakistan  Merchant  Navy .

In  order  to  cope  up  with  challenging  circumstances during  sea  ventures , Pakistan  Marine  Academy  was  found  and  is located at Karachi , Pakistan . It is  Governmental  institution  which  trains people  to  play  an  effective  role  being  a  part  of   Merchant  Navy .

In  Pakistan , trade  system  has  evolved  by  leaps  and  bounds. The  advancements  in technologies  ensure  trade  to  be  more  secure . Merchant  Navy  has  been  playing  a  key  factor  for  Pakistan  in  terms  of  trade . Merchant Navy  is highly paid profession in the world  due  to  the  fact  that   one's  life  is  kept  at  stake  regardless  of  dangers  involved  in  the  sea in  order  to  impoverish  trade . From   automobiles   to  house  hold  goods , Pakistan  Merchant  Navy  does  it  all .

Keeping  in  view  the  past  joint  projects  of  Pakistan  Navy , it  is  hoped  that  future  holds  great   scope  in  regard  with  prosperous  strategic  bonding  throughout  the  region  of  Pakistan . Furthermore , awareness  among  the  students  must  be  encouraged  such  to  develop  keen  knowledge  succeeding  in  this  particular  field  of  maritime  to  motivate  individuals  to  trade  and  manufacture  epic  technologies . Hence  wider  platform  would  emerge  for  the  regional  corporation  in  maritime  field  at  large .

It  is  a  bitter  reality  and  an  accepted  truth  that  Pakistan  has  been  facing  a lot  of  threats  due  to  terrorism  and  is  struggling  hard  to  maintain  its  stability  and  prosperity  now  a  days . By  putting  an  end  to  anti-law  trade  of  weaponry  under  strict  action  of  law , use  of  ammunitions  by  wrong  hands   could  be  brought  to  minimal  ratio . With  new  means  of  law  abiding   trade  system  due to  regional  corporation , it  can  be  stated  that  the  challenging  intercity  problems  would  be  reduced .

A  day  is  near  to  come  when  trade  would  flourish  and  Pakistan  will  regain  its  lost  glory  in  regards  of  strategic  defense  with  the  help  of  evolving  youth under  the  flag  of  Pakistan  Navy  and  Pakistan  Merchant  Navy  respectively .
